The Pennsylvania Colony has the first non-religiously based university, first hospital and library. There is more interest in practical education. The schools are sponsored by many different kinds of religious denominations, rather than the Puritan Church.
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania's capital, is known as the "Athens of America" because of are rich cultural life. Newspapers and magazines prosper, as well as law and medicine. At the College of Philadelphia, which is the only college at this time, arts and sciences thrive as they are highly educated there.
